Toasted sandwiches

A warm tasty snack that is welcome any time of the year.

 

Cooking directions

Possible fillings or toppings:

  • Tinned crushed pineapple (well drained), creamed corn, sliced tomato, ham or salami, pickle or relish, tomato sauce, pesto, tinned fish, chopped spring onion, grated cheese, left-over cooked mince, baked beans, chopped red or green pepper, low-fat cottage cheese, sliced canned or fresh mushrooms, sliced courgette, hummus, sliced gherkin, marmite...
  • Invent your own yummy combination - the possibilities are endless.

To cook:

  • Make a sandwich with your favourite fillings.
  • Heat a non-stick frying pan, spray with a little cooking oil, and cook sandwich on both sides until golden brown. Or cook using a toasted sandwich maker or sandwich press. Or use one slice of bread with toppings and cook under the grill (kind of like a mini pizza).
