Preparation time: 30 minutes

A versatile meat sauce that can be used for many different family favourites.

Cooking directions

  • Heat oil in a large saucepan or large non-stick frypan with a lid.
  • Add mince, garlic and onions and cook for 5 minutes or until the mince is browned.
  • Add vegetables and pasta sauce then cover saucepan with lid.
  • Simmer for 15 to 20 minutes or until sauce is rich and thickened.
  • Serve with cooked pasta, baked potatoes or baked kumara. Add a green salad or some steamed veggies to boost your veggie intake for the day.

Try:

  • Using 2 tins chopped tomatoes and 2 teaspoons mixed herbs instead of a jar of pasta sauce.
  • Making twice as much and freezing half for a quick easy meal at the end of a long day.
  • Topping with mashed potato, sprinkling with grated cheese and baking in the oven for 30 minutes.
  • Serving with steamed vegetables and mashed potato.
  • Serving with our crunchy potato wedges.
  • Using lean mince - it costs a bit more but has more flavour and less fat.
